Canada-Wide Culture Days Celebrated in Downtown Guelph Studios

The downtown artists on the third floor of the Trafalgar Building at 123 Woolwich St. are opening their studios to celebrate the Canada-wide Culture Days Weekend September 24, 25 and 26th.  The studios will be open Friday 5 – 9 pm, Saturday 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday 11 am – 4 pm.
In the Trafalgar Building various activities, all free events, will be taking place. Maria Pezzano will be hosting an open studio showcasing her latest mixed media process works incorporating block-printing and painting. Stained glass artist Lynn Chidwick will hold demonstrations showing participants the finer techniques involved in stained glass creation. Printmaker Tammy Ratcliff will also host an open studio and exhibition along with guest artist, and winner of Guelph’s Art-In-the-Street 2010 Honorable Mention, Lydia Nieuwenkamp who will present on-going printmaking demonstrations. In Pearl Van Geest’s studio, guests will be invited to participate in the on-going creation of Cross-Pollination, an interactive art installation, involving the crafting of tissue-paper flowers and photography.

Culture Days (culturedays.ca) is a collaborative pan-Canadian volunteer movement to raise the awarenessaccessibilityparticipation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. A national Steering Committee, together with provincial committees (known as Provincial Task Forces) are self-mobilizing at the grassroots level to implement concurrent annual province-wide public participation events each September beginning in 2010. The annual, concurrent Culture Days events across Canada will feature free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind the scenes,” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers… in their community.

Information on each activity is available on the Culture Days website through these links:
